Some people will stumble with their spoken communication but can convince almost anyone of almost anything if they take the time to assemble their thought into a cohesive and coherent custom essay, or other type of persuasive custom writing.

England as a country seems to find it hard to be liked by anyone. Our ‘special relationship’ with the USA seems to upset most of the other countries in Europe. Our negative attitude towards the developing European union, and our constant belief that ‘we know best’ are further reasons for the country to be disliked. Of course, the history of our country is littered with unforgivable acts of cruelty and violence against many other nations.

So it is against this backdrop that our football team travels the world, followed by thousands of great supporters and hundreds of morons. There are no prizes for guessing which group of fans get the most publicity and are deemed to represent England supporters abroad!

English club football is the most watched sport in the world. English players and clubs are known and loved in every corner of every continent. I read once that David Beckham was officially the most well known and recognized person in the entire world. Managers and players from around the globe flock to England to improve their skills and take on the ultimate challenge. Obviously, they also improve their bank balances!

Players from many countries still regard a game against England at Wembley as the highlight of their playing careers. You only have to look at what it meant to the Croatia team to win at Wembley when the game was to all intents and purposes meaningless for them as they had already qualified.

If foreign players and coaches love to work in England and dream of playing against England at Wembley. If fans around the world love English football, clubs, and players, just why is the English national team so unpopular?

To answer that question I believe we have to go back to the first paragraph of this article. As a nation we have forgotten that we are no longer a ‘super power’. We have a belief that we are the best and that we know best. In terms of football we have the same belief. We enter every tournament thinking that we have the best players, the best team, the best fans, and that we are favorites to win. These beliefs are based on a type of arrogance that is seen as English around the world. Our players are not the best. Our team is not the best, and we are rarely favorites for anything other than getting knocked out in the quarter finals.

We have only ever won one tournament and that was in our own country forty-two years ago. Maybe if we showed a bit more humility, and a bit more respect to other nations we would start to be less disliked. That is equally true for the country as a whole, not just for our football team.

Does your dad’s devotion to his football club come a close second behind his family? Or do you suspect he’d probably cash you in for tickets to the cup final? Either way, it’s an obsession that needs feeding (but keep Social Services’ number to hand just in case). What better way to feed it than to get him a football themed Father’s Day present? This article aims to help you to find a gift straight from the starting line-up, and everything is available online with a little searching.

Let’s start with the simple things. Like mugs. Every man needs a mug all of his own. What he does with it is his business, but until he has been bought a mug (he’ll never buy one himself), he will have to endure curious stares and even pity from those around him. The best kind of mug, of course, is one that says a little bit about him on the outside – which brings us nicely back to football. Simply having some reference to his chosen club on his mug will instantly buy him respect and admiration and it could well become an invaluable conversation starter and social lubricant. It’s that important.

A club’s mark can be stamped on almost any object, transforming even the most mundane household or office implement into another expression of his pride. You’ll be able to find pens, wallets, coasters, bottle openers, business card holders, hip flasks, cuff links and all sorts of objects featuring the badges or colours of most of the major clubs.

If fantasy is his thing, especially fantasies involving a muddy field and twenty-two other men, you might have to delve a little deeper. First up is the personalised commentary. You provide his name and a few details about his footballing goodies and baddies, and a professional commentator will record an ultra-realistic radio commentary where your dad is the hero. Next, if you can provide us with a photograph of him, he can be digitally manipulated into a team photo of your choice, and then the whole thing can be printed on quality canvas. These one-off Father’s Day Gifts put your dad right at the heart of the day’s celebrations.

A hugely popular gift is the collection of newspaper articles from the back pages of a century’s worth of papers. It’s not just a trip down Memory Lane; it’s a comprehensive history of the team’s ups and downs as told by the sports journalists and photographers of the day. Most of the major UK clubs are covered, as are national teams, and the whole collection comes bound in a leatherette cover with his name and a short message gold-embossed onto the front.

But perhaps he’d like to play his own part in creating soccer history. Assuming his professional playing days are beyond the scope of medical science, he can still become a mover and shaker in the beautiful game thanks to the priceless gifts of genuine shares in football clubs. There are several top clubs to choose from, and this could well be his dream Father’s Day gift. You never know, it might make him think twice about swapping you for those cup final tickets.

England gave the sport of association football (soccer) to the world and some countries feel that the English media, fans and team still believe that they have a divine right to be the best at this sport that is now played across the globe. Songs like Football’s coming home’ reinforce this view, however good the song might be!

To be fair, as an Irish man living in Scotland, I think that it’s more the English media that have this attitude rather than the players or fans. I know lots of English football fans who will quite happily admit that their team are a quarter final team (at best) when it comes to major tournaments.

The English media and, in particular, the tabloid papers and TV pundits, however, seem to think that this is still 1908 rather than 2008. During the last World Cup, I was particularly annoyed by the patronizing attitudes that the BBC’s so-called football experts towards any team that hasn’t previously won the World Cup. Again, being fair, it has to be said that a Scotsman (Alan Hansen) was as much to blame as imbeciles like Linekar and Shearer.

Looking beyond the British Isles, another reason why England are unpopular is that the Home Nations (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) still have separate teams and voting rights with FIFA. It is felt that this gives the UK unfair voting power and is an outdated luxury afforded to the UK, which after all has one central Parliament and competes as one entity in other sports such as athletics and tennis.

There’s also possibly indifference or disdain towards the English (and British) style of play. We play the game at one hundred miles per hour (not literally!), as if we haven’t progressed much beyond the playground kick and rush game. Other nations sometimes consider the British game uncouth, overly physical and, in some cases, dirty. Certainly, one of the reasons why Brazilian football is so revered whilst English football is often derided, is because the Brazilians believe in getting the ball down and playing free-flowing football with an emphasis on skill and a bit of mercurial trickery.

There’s also the spectre of hooliganism that still hangs over English football. The tragedy of Heysel will take a long time for many people to forget and, although hooliganism is by no means just an English disease, it is an affliction that is seen as having begun in England. Scottish and Irish football fans, in contrast, have a very good reputation in world football. Again, in the interests

Finding the right London venue for your event can be overwhelming. There are thousands of venues across the whole of London meaning your number of options can seem infinite. Sporting venues and stadiums provide an inspirational backdrop for your event. Why not consider Londons finest sporting venues for your event. The following is an introduction to the four most prominent sporting London Venues:

Lords

The home of cricket has the capacity to host meetings, exhibitions and dinners. It has been utilised for product launches and weddings. The venue facilities can cater for any number of people between 1 and 1000. The function rooms benefit from views of the famous turf.

The captains lounge and the nursery pavilion are managed by an in house team that oversee catering, meetings and events operation. It provides an uncomplicated single point of contact for people wishing to use the venue.

It may be possible to incorporate a tour of the cricket ground into your conference. As well as the field the venue boasts a cricket museum with paintings photos and artefacts that bring to life 400 years of cricket history. The full tour takes around 1hour 40mins. Alistair Cooke described the atmosphere of Lords is more like a prayer meeting than a ball game so if youre looking for a venue with gravity Lords may be for you.

Stamford Bridge

Stamford Bridge is the home of the most expensive football team in England, Chelsea Football Club. Situated in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, it is out of the congestion zone and comes with onsite parking.

Knightsbridge and Kings Road are nearby which will provide your delegates and their WAGs the opportunity to experience some of the best shopping streets in the world. The West End and its numerous theatres are only a short cab ride away making Stamford bridge a great choice for proximity to Londons attractions.

Stamford Bridge provides accommodation for around 600 people in its four star hotel. There are 21 conference and banqueting rooms that provide corporate hospitality opportunities on a match day. Day packages for the venue start at pounds 60 per head with residential packages costing pounds 195. Stadium tours can be arranged for a truly memorable event.

Twickenham

Twickenham is the home of England rugby. It is a world renowned stadium that hosts the biggest matches in rugby. There are 12 main function rooms that can accommodate between 40 and 400 people. There are over 100 executive boxes that overlook the field.

These can accommodate between 6 and 56 people. Conferencing facilities at the stadium are serviced by car parking facilities for 2000 delegates. Corporate hospitality boxes accommodate 10, 12, 16 or 20 people on match days. This is a perfect option for those that wish to combine their love of rugby with their business.

Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium was rebuilt and reopened on the 9th March 2007. Described as the Church of football by footballing great Pele the venue has conference facilities to cater for any number between 3 and 3000 people. Day delegate packages cost between pounds 57 and pounds 93 per person and include breakfast, lunch and use of the meeting rooms and audio visual equipment.

The venue can be used for a wide range of events. Graduation ceremonies, exhibitions, weddings and awards ceremonies all benefit from the extensive choice of dining from the luxury menus. There are 6 distinctively different options that include the Corinthian room that benefits from views of the pitch and of north London. A tour of the venue can be arranged as part of a conference package and will leave your delegates inspired.

... in recent years, a huge number of fans now wear National Football League authentic jerseys both at and away from the footbal venues. Wearing the apparel of their favorite team or player has become an indispensible style statement of all generations. ...

Originally sports jerseys were just seen as a part of a team’s regular equipment. In fact, traditionally, football players had no option but to wear jerseys that were plain with long sleeves and much heavier than their modern National Football League equivalent. From a critical standpoint, it was invariably argued that the reason for the equipment’s lack of popular appeal was that it was only part of the team equipment with no fancy embellishments. The equipment was regarded just as work clothes in the same way that a house painter wears coveralls.

The modern popularity of the National Football League and the advent of football teams’ personalized jerseys have imbued team equipment with a new lease of life and chic credibility. Team uniforms have become a trendy and desirable fashion accessory culminating with the simple jersey once-and-for-all laying the ghost of its work-clothes image, and becoming a symbol of heroism, achievement, team spirit and triumph in the face of adversity.

NFL players’ jerseys now have shorter sleeves, more interesting and fashionable colors and innovative patterns. A great deal of attention is now given to the design, appearance and appeal – not to mention marketing – of team equipment.

A note about football jerseys:

From 2010, visiting team’s jerseys will need to meet a standard criteria. The yoke of the jersey (from the neckline to the seam at mid-chest including the shoulders) and the body (the area below the yoke) will be white and will contain only allowed adornments and accessory patterns:

Stripes: May be placed on the sleeves to a maximum of 1 inch in width.

Border: Maximum of 1 inch in width may be placed around the collar and cuffs.

Side seam: An insert from the underarm’s to the top of the pants to a maximum of 4 inches in width.

Also beginning in 2010 the home team jersey will need to meet a standard criteria. The yoke and body of the jersey must not include white except as the number of the jersey, a decorative stripe, a border on the collar or cuff or a side seam.

National Football League fans wearing replica matching jerseys to support their team is not a new occurrence. However, with the positive changes made to team apparel in recent years, a huge number of fans now wear National Football League authentic jerseys both at and away from the footbal venues.

College football season, with all-day tailgates, multi-million dollar TV deals, and rabid fans has earned the right to call itself a big time sport even if it lacks the glitz and polish of professional leagues. The popularity of college football can be explained by three powerful factors: frequency, proximity, loyalty. Media outlets, eager to make money from this popularity have made college footbal the most covered inter-collegiate sport.

While most college football teams cannot boast the same fan base as a pofessional sports team, college football is aided by the fact that they play only once a week and for a briefer season than basketball, baseball, or hockey. This has a condensing effect that the NFL enjoys as well. If your team plays only a few times a year, it is more important to invest the time and money to see the game, wherever that game may be. Media companies profit from this condensed audience.

College football also enjoys the enormous advantage of being locally accessible to more people than professional teams, which are located in large markets only. Around the country, no matter how remote you might be, there is a college nearby. People who struggle to make to a big city to watch professional sports can access the big-ticket events in the neighboring town. Most of the traditional popularity of southern college sports teams stems from the dearth of professional sports that region has. Whether it is Ohio State or Alabama, storied college programs have benefited from not having to compete for attention. Media outlets use these teams to reach into local markets that are missed by targeting cities exclusively.

The final factor that drives college football is the intense loyalty that fans feel for their teams. Some feel this loyalty because it is their alma mater. Others feel it because they have pride in their region or in their state. There are no fans like college football fans and media companies know this. They cash in on this loyalty in the same way Nascar sponsors cash in on the loyalty of those fans. Budweiser customizes beer bottles to suit school colors in the same way that CBS Sports wants its name to be synonymous with SEC Football.

In the age of Tivo, sports braodcasting has become even more prized because it is one media event advertisers can be sure wil be watched live. By exploiting three key factorsfrequency, proximity, and loyalty media companies enjoy healthy profits from college football coverage. What this means for fans is that they rarely have to worry about being able to watch the game as long as they don’t mind watching commercials in between.

I come from Scotland, a country with a great pride in team sports, most notably football or ‘soccer’ as it is sometimes known although here I will refer to it merely as football for that is it’s name. We have the second oldest Football Association in the world and we have also been credited with inventing the game. To me, football is a perfect example of team sport, it involves skill, athleticism, a high degree of physical fitness and above all team work. One great player cannot make a great team alone. American football, on the other hand, involves lots of stopping, organizing and discussion followed by a few seconds of action mainly involving two players while the rest push each other around with body armor on. To me this seems the commonly held view of both sports and this is why American football will never catch on globally, certainly never as much as football which pretty much dominates the global sporting world unless it’s an Olympic year.

To determine American football’s global chances, we need to know what makes a sport popular globally. The most popular global event is the Olympics – an event of great sportsmanship where the countries of the world can unite under the banner of friendly competition. Every Olympian takes immense pride in representing their nation and the winners are revered as heroes, and rightly so as they can rest easy in the knowledge that they are the best in the world at what they do. So a sport needs sportsmanship, pride and accomplishment. Let’s asses American football based on those ideas. Sportsmanship, the concept of being the best at your sport in the nicest possible way. To show great humility in the face of victory. American football seems to be all about aggression and force, and the amount of padding involved makes this violence very impersonal. There’s little shaking of hands after knocking someone to the floor. Pride is best expressed in sport at a national level, I come from a country with the best ratio for fans pride to footballing skill, i.e. we have the best fans in the world, The Tartan Army, and a football team who are not particularly good. In this respect, American football has one huge disadvantage – there are no national teams really. There is the American Football World Cup, but with only 20 nations competing it’s hardly going to stir up great DVD sales. Unfortunately, American football is a sport mainly played at club level where pride often gives way to a type of fanatical passion
